Nields Crossing Happy Wedding Day Yesterday
by Henry Gibson a.k.a. Bruce (9/6/1999)

Jennie inspired the following poem, by Henry Gibson, for those of you who remember "Laugh In," which I'm guessing isn't too many of you. :)
I know it's over, so now I must say,
Happy Wedding Day Yesterday.
Here's hoping the day was a time of rare glee,
Of merriment, mirth, and much festivity ---

A day of tearful moms and of dear old dads,
And of all of the best friends that a Nields ever had,
All jubilantly and joyfully assembled there,
To tip a hat to the groom and to toast the bride so fair ---

Bass man Dave Chalfant and singer Katryna Nields,
Artists so beloved, and so outstanding in their fields,
Who are poised now like bold Columbuses facing unknown lands,
Sailing onward to delights scarcely known to mortal man ---

Or like Moon River's two drifters who are off to see the world,
A brave captain of a boy, and his first mate of a girl!
Or like Noah's ark, going two by two on the Sea of Love,
Finding their life's journey together on the wings of a dove!

Yes, I hope it was peachy, I hope it was keen:
The happiest wedding day that has ever been!
Nookers everywhere shout, Hip Hip Hooray!
And give the greeting, Happy Wedding Day Yesterday!

We hope that the couple will be as happy as clams,
Like two peas in a pod, or two babes in a pram!
If Happy Ever After Afternoon can be a dream come true,
Then Dave and Katryna, we wish that for you!

We think that Katryna is the sweetest of the sweet,
And that marrying a beau as nice as Dave is ever-so-neat!
So best wishes, now and always, to Katryna and Dave,
That new bride so fair, and that bridegroom so brave! :)

"I Know It's Over," The Smiths)
