Nields Crossing My New Hometown
by Rhiannon (3/21/2000)

"If You Lived Here You'd Be Home Now" was released on 3/21/2000. Rhiannon's was the first complete review to appear on the Nook. It does not contain any "yays".

Yeah. I've decided that I want to move into the CD. It can be my new home. Because it's very good, and I like it.

When I went into the CD store to ask about the album, the guy behind the counter said, "the Nields? Cool! I've seen them a few times, and they're very nice." I agreed. And I was excited to meet somebody that knows who TN is.

Now I'm going to say stuff about the album, and I won't feel bad about it now since everyone else at least has the potential to have it.

Jeremy Newborn Street-
wow. It sounds really good. I've heard it before a bunch of times because they've been playing it when they come to North Carolina, but the extra instruments are really neat. Like many things on the album, they took me by suprise at first but after about half a second I thought, "Wow, this is neat!"

Wanting-
This is still such a very pretty song. And I always get the urge to pat every member of the band on the head and say, "you are very beautiful"...but I won't do that.

This Town Is Wrong-
But this song is right. The opening was weird to me at first, but it's very neat. It makes the nields feel even more accessable than they already are (and that's already amazing). And of course, the "i sold my computer for a used acoustic guitar" line is still awesome.

Maybe It's Love-
This is the first song on the album that I had never heard before. It's a fairly simple song (although it might not seem so simple after a few listens), but that makes it even better. Sometimes things don't need to be so complicated. This song is certainly going ot have to to grow on me. But each album I buy comes with a couple of songs like that.

May Day Cafe-
The best choice for a single. Before I wasnt' sure, then I was kind of sure, now I'm really sure. I really love this song. More and more every time I hear it. I like that there is laughter after "romantic comedy of one."

Caroline Dreams-
Well, my middle name is Caroline, so I was pretty interested in hearing this song. At first I was like, "well, it's okay, but not that catchy." Then I was proven wrong by myself. The very next time I heard it I was singing along. And I really like the idea in the chorus of "if she doesn't wake up won't her dreams come true?"

Barbi Poem-
Anybody that has seen a nields show in the past couple of years has heard this (except, surpisingly, they didn't do it at ANY of the carolina shows in february). It still kicks ass. I *really* wish they would've put it in front of "this town is wrong", however. It feels weird in front of "100 names", and it jsut WORKS in front of TTIW.

One Hundred Names-
Oh my god. "wow" is all I have to say for this song! It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO beautiful. Before when I heard it, after the nieldsletter narrated by nessie, i always have an image of Nessie crying over a horse! But that faded once I heard it on the album. It's one of those songs that leaves me with my mouth hanging open.

Mr. Right Now-
I had heard this once before (my second nields concert, 3/99), and the line "if you don't wanna do me right now" made my jaw drop then too. I love it! It's fun, and just cool.

Jack The Giant Killer-
Very cute song. And I don't mean cute in a patronizing, condescending way, but in a good way. And I LOVE (everyone that i talk to knows how MUCH i love...) the noises that Katryna makes in the background right after "there be giants here" (the "uh oh uh oh uh oh uh oh OH!" noises)

I'm So Lonesome I could Cry-
There isn't much I can say about this. It sounds good, but basically like all the times I've heard it before (this isn't a bad thing, though).

Mercy House-
I need to listen to this song again to really form an opinion. I was getting ready for class when I heard it earlier, so I didn't get to pay much attention. But I definitely didn't hate it, so that's good!

Keys To The Kingdom-
What a fun song! I really like it! I didn't know the nields were even capable of this song, but that's what I get for thinking, i guess. It's very cool, and has grown on me every time I've heard it (which is three tiems).

Forever-
This song is NOTHING like I expected. Not in the LEAST. And I really like it. It's odd, but in that good sort of way. David's voice is neat, once again, in an odd sort of way.

I Still Believe in My Friends-
This song is way slower than I thought it was going to be. But I REALLY love the idea. I'm GLAD that they still believe in their friends. They're right, if you can't believe in yourself, then it's good to be able to believe in your friends. And I bet their friends believe in them too, I would. And tish is totally right, the sound of laughter ending the album is... perfect.

So, this album is wonderful. I mean, there are things that I would change if I could. And I'm not going to say that it's "perfect"...because that wouldn't be true. But it's damn close, and I love it. And it's okay that I actually had to wait to the release date to hear it! And I just spent so long reviewing it, that I guess I'm not going to class tonight! Oh well, I can listen to the album yet again. Now I'm just going to look foward to my Nieldsy summer.
