Nields Crossing This Is The Spam that We Get
by Adam (3/12/2004)
to the tune of "This Is The Work That We Do."

So the DJ on the radio this morning uttered "This is the spam that I get!" and that just set my mind in motion all morning. Finally after lunch I surrendered to the muse. Hm, I'll have to make the lyrics into a bitmap and slap it onto a box to put in my manual - that way it'd be work-related! :D

There are a few rough spots but on the whole I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Many apologies to Nerissa.

The computer is sluggish, cause Outlook's a hog
The CPU's certainly pegged
To the user creating a message of import
From a spinning cursor of Wait

And the user is restless, he's wrestling a deadline
And his Inbox is full to the brim
But the computer is slow, it can't really do much
Now all he can think of is spam.

And it all comes back to the mail that waits
It all sits in a queue
It all comes back to the fact that it's free
This is the spam that we get
This is the spam that we get.

There were "best pharma deals" and penis enlargers
And Nigerian 419s
There were despots in exile and widows in danger
And cable descramblers for free.

The user says, "Where is the patch I've looked for"
The computer just sits there and blinks
Let's go get updates to drive out the errors
Office Update, so very slow.

And it call comes back to the mail that waits
It all sits in a queue
It all comes back to the pop-ups we click
This is the spam that we get
This is the spam that we get.

And the mail it was coming and the filters were running
And the cursor went round like a wheel
There were Nookers and Fruheads, and even some Wordslers
Virus scans before every view.

And the user says, "Unsub? What a big bummer!"
And the computer says, "Yes, it is time"
And a request is delivered at the cusp of the deluge
And the LISTSERV has good response time.

And it call comes back to the mail that waits
It all sits in a queue
It all comes back to the software that spies
This is the spam that we get
This is the spam that we get.

There are skin creams and potions and frauds and deceptions
Viagra, Cialis, Craig Shergold for Guinness
There are petitions for Nader, open gateways in Asia
Trojans and cruel variants.

And the user grew tired and he started to skim
He looked through the Inbox and smiled
And he sat and filed, read, and deleted
All for the love of his friends.

And it all comes back to the mail that waits
It all sits in a queue
It all comes back to the surveys we take
This is the spam that we get
This is the spam that we get.

And it comes back to the mail that waits
It all sits in a queue
It all comes back to the guestbooks we sign
This is the spam that we get
This is the spam that we get.
